Prompt: Today, you continued working on your "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" PowerPoint project. Think about the creation process. Which part of creating your presentation has required the most thought or creativity? What choices have you made with your information, images, or slide design to help communicate your understanding of the story? Explain.

I think that the slide that required the most effort was the "3 words that describe the character" or the vocab slide. I think this way because I tried to make every word as accurate to the character and descriptive as possible. Another thing I Thought was difficult was the images because it felt like I was repeating the same thing over and over. It didn't really add anything to the understand of the story. Overall I love the creativity aspect of this project and we should do it more often. Summary: Today we worked more on the presentations, and we completed 6 slides in total as a progress check. We are able to work on this in the weekend. Reflection: Presentations require lots of work but it combines creative aspects which make the task so much enjoyable. I was able to communicate the story successfuly.

Prompt: Today, you worked on a PowerPoint presentation based on a character from "The Life You Save May Be Your Own." Do you think creating a presentation like this helps you understand a story and its characters better than a traditional worksheet? Why or why not? Explain your answer.

I think that working on presentations helps me organize my thoughts and helps me understand the subject better. There is something about presentations that regular worksheets don't have. It makes me really think about my answers and how I'm going to put it into a decorated slide that matches the theme or question given. It overall is such a better option and I think we should do them more often. Summary: Today we made a presentation about a character given to us in the story "The Life You Safe May be Your Own." We talked about character traits, themes, intentions and other things in the slides. This assignment is due Sunday and we are expected to finish 9 slides Reflection: This Blog really made me realize how presentations actually help me organize and help me do my work. I believe we should be given these type of projects more often.

Blog Prompt: Have you ever had a first impression of someone that later turned out to be wrong? What made you form that first impression, and what eventually changed your mind? Based on what you have read so far, what first impression do you have of Mr. Shiflet? Explain what he has said or done that has shaped your opinion of him.

I formed a first impression when I meet most of my teachers, they usually prove me wrong at the middle of the year. I usually think the work is going to be easy but I changed my mind as the course progresses. My first impression of Mr Shifflet was that he is a confident man, a handyman, who knows what he wants and has his goals set on the car. He is trying to win over Ms crater and look good in order to make himself part of the family. It is very on the nose that he is trying all of this to get hold of the car, which makes me believe that he is a manipulative man.  Summary: Today we read the story " The Life you save may be your own" and ut talks about a firmly that runs into a man named Mr shifflet. Mr shifflet asks to do work around the house in order to gain their trust. This story is about how trusting people by their appearances and actions doesn't mean their intentions are good. Reflection: There are people like Mr Shiftlet out there that only work for what they wa...

Prompt: The title “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” suggests that helping or protecting another person may also benefit you. Describe a time when helping someone else taught you something, changed your perspective, or made a positive difference in your own life.

I don't necessarily have an experience in which I helped someone but, there was one instance in which someone helped me. During jazz band tryouts I forgot my scales, without them I would've most likely not been able to make it I'd it weren't for my classmate. This classmate became a very important person in my life and overall positively impacted it. I am now in marching band because of her and I've never been happier because it led me to meet new and amazing people. Summary: Today we read and answered some questions regarding the story "The Life you Safe May be Your Own." We filled out a chart/ graphic organizer to complete until Thursday. This helped us analyze the different intentions and emotions of the characters.   Reflection: This Blog made me realize how grateful I am to have met this person. She really positively impacted my life here in high school.

Prompt: Imagine someone could learn about you only by looking through your trash can. What three items might they find in your trash today, and what would each item reveal about your personality, habits, interests, or life right now?

3 items that you could find in my trashcan are, scrap pieces of cloth, paper and Instax boxes. I love taking photos so I buy a bunch of photo packages to capture moments with friends and family. I also have scrap pieces of cloth everywhere since I love sewing so I cut up old shirts to make stuffed animals and clothes. Lastly, you would find paper in my trashcan because I love making doodles and drawings.  Summary: Today we finished an assignment that was either a song, website or things you could find in your characters trashcan. I got the website assignment in which the character would browse in.  Reflection: This blog post made me wonder how much I waste in trying to make art and small projects. All of my hobbies contain some type of pollution.

STEAL Post

Using STEAL in any type of story or in real life could probably help you infer the personality of a character, by using this I will identify my personality. Speech, I have a little bit of an accent which someone could infer that I am from another country of origin, or speak a different language. Thoughts, I live a good life and laugh a lot so people might thing I am thinking positively. Effect on others, I really care for the people around me and try to share and help others any way I can. Actions, I love giving small presents to people occasionally, this is a way for me to express how I care. Looks, I have an average height and have medium long hair. I dress comfortably and don't have much style. Overall this is how I would describe my character. Summary: Today we used STEAL to identify characters, I was given Roy, the troublemaker, spoiled child of the family. Analyzing the text looking for ways we can connect some of his actions into STEAL to learn more about the character. Refl...

In "The Rockpile", John and Roy do not always receive the same treatment from the adults in their family. Have you ever felt that you or someone else in your family was treated differently from everyone else? What caused the difference, and do you think it was fair? Explain.

One time I have felt like I was treated differently than everyone else was when I got less consequences for my actions because I was younger. Whenever me and my brother got in trouble he got in more consequences, I believe it was fair because he was in charge of me but at the same time it isn't. This personally connected me with the story, on the sibling dynamic. Summary: Today we finished reading and answering some questions about the story the Rock pile. We did a class discussion about the characters and the answers to the questions. We basically summarized the story and some of its meanings. Reflection: John and Roy's sibling relationship was kind of similar to mine. I was irresponsible and my older brother had to take care of me, yet he got in trouble more.

In “The Rockpile,” the children know that the rockpile is dangerous and that they are supposed to stay away from it, but curiosity still draws them toward it. Think about a time when curiosity or temptation caused you to ignore a warning or rule. What happened, and what did you learn from the experience?

One time I ignored a rule that was meant to protect me was the time I went hiking with my family and there was a sign that said do not lean on the fence. The fence was meant to protect people not to fall down the rocks and land on cacti. I didn't follow the directions and ended up landing on the spikes, my family had to remove the spines individual from my arm and hand. I learned that sometimes warnings and rules are placed for a reason. Summary: Today we read a story called "The Rock pile" by James Baldwin. It talked about the power dynamics of a family, how everyone was scared of the father. After a kid names Roy goes down the fire escape against his moms wishes, he gets hurt in a figh, a place called the rock pile. Once he comes home john the older brother has to bear the consequences of his little brothers actions and face the father. The father is an abusive man that takes control of the room hurting people verbally and physically.  Reflection: Im very glad that I h...

Prompt: September 11 changed many aspects of American life, even though your generation was born afterward. Think about a major event that has happened during your own lifetime, such as the COVID-19 pandemic or another event that affected your community or the country. How do you think your experience with that event helps you understand what it might have been like for Americans to experience the uncertainty and change following 9/11? Explain the connection

9/11 caused a huge change in people's lives, security was increased, a lot of lives were lost, it was a devastating tragedy. Throughout our life we will experience events like these that can leave us forever changed. One of these events was COVID in 2020. COVID caused a huge change in routine and left many people separated to the ones they love. The uncertainty of when it was going and the health security measures forever changed our routine. Some people still feel like time sped up or that the world wasn't the same since COVID. Summary: Today we took a test on the story " A Rose for Emily". It took the whole class period and we completed this blog post once we were done. Reflection: 9/11 was a horrible tragedy and I give my condolences to all of the family members who lost their love ones. I went to the museum in New York and it genuinely crushed my heart, one of the quietest museums I've ever been to.

Prompt: Emily struggles with letting go of people throughout her life, and the ending reveals the extreme length she went to in order to keep Homer with her. Why do you think some people have such a difficult time accepting loss or change? Connect Emily’s actions to your own observations or experiences with people struggling to let go

People may have a hard time accepting loss or change due to them having a completely different live style in which they have the need to control everything. An example of this in the story is how the father scared away any men from Emily s life making her grow up under her fathers control. When he died she refused change of any sort and resorted to her fathers way of keeping their life together. She killed Homer as a last stitch effort to keep him with her showing her struggle with change and letting people go.\ Summary: I wasn't there this day but we finished reading a rose for Emily and basically it shows the internal struggles of Emily and the perspective of the townspeople while the story develops. It is very twisted and you never see the ending coming, due to the authors use of foreshadowing and leaving out important details.  Refection: I like this story but I didn't like how it was structured, or some of the story decisions. Overall not a bad read just slightly confusi...

Prompt: In Part I of A Rose for Emily, Emily’s house stands out from the community and reflects both her past and the changes happening around her. Think about a house, building, or place that holds special memories for you. What does that place look like, what memories do you connect with it, and what does it represent to you?

A building that I am connected to is my grandparents house. It is a place of great importance and such a huge part of my life. I grew up there and created memories with my cousins and family either through playing video games or just eating dinner and enjoying ourselves. That place holds a special place in my heart since it represents love and family values. Summary: Today we read "A Rose for Emily" as a class and answered some questions regarding the story, we went in depth In the story and analyzed certain parts and meanings. Reflection: So far the story has been very confusing giving us no direction to how the story is headed. Though the author is making it very clear about how the character is portrayed, by her refusing to change and isolated In a huge house.

What experiences in your life have reminded you that time moves quickly? How have those experiences affected the way you value your time?

When I go somewhere for a vacation, I am reminded of how fast time can pass by. One day you're suddenly enjoying the beaches or visiting family the next your in the car leaving for the airport. It is as if you blink and time suddenly passes. So I try to ground myself and make myself live in the moment, because it will all become a memory sooner or later. It really makes me value how my life is right now knowing how uncertain the future can be.  Today we analyzed a poem "Because I could Not Stop for Death" Emily Dickinson as a class talking about death and the passing of moments. We drew and filled in some sheets with quotes that follow the theme. Reflection: Overall I really love this poem because of the idea of death nor really being a scary grim reaper, instead it is a carriage in which you ride on. Watching your past memories giving you a sense of bitter sweetness. Overall a unique and great poem.

In “Missing Your People,” Tracy Brower explains the importance of belonging. Describe a time when you felt like you truly belonged. What created that feeling?

One time I felt like I truly belonged is when I met my friends, I feel like I can be myself with them, and we also share common interests. It is really important to search for belonging because then you can find your people, people actually worth spending the time with. I met them through clubs, sports, and other activities in which we all enjoyed. I believe that is what made me feel like I truly belonged. Today we read an article and answered some questions through the reading The article was "Missing Your People" written by Tracy Bower. It talked about the importance of finding your people using scientific articles to support her claims. Reflection: I agree with this article because it mentions some arguments I can relate to. It honestly was just a straight forward article yet I got a bad score on it.

Prompt: Write about a fear you have overcome.

One fear I've overcome is my fear of the ocean. Since I was little I've always been scared of the ocean, because you never know what's in there with you. It could be giant whales, sharks, or some scary fish down there with you and the worst part is there is nowhere to run. They have field advantage so you're basically at their mercy. I've overcome this by boating in lakes and fishing at sea, yet I still have an uneasy feeling when I have to swim. Playing video games like Subnautica has also helped me overcome my fear.
